It has been proven that better building standards and proper political disaster management significantly help prevent widespread loss of life when earthquakes strike.
Using satellite imagery of Haiti’s capital, Port au Prince, the poster shows the devastating effect the earthquake of January 12 – felt most by the lowest strata of society living in the slums and in poor housing conditions.
The superimposed gold blocks therefore serve two purposes. They spell out a call for action to help rebuild Haiti through material contributions. However, they also symbolize a call for a reconstruction effort in Haiti with better living standards for all and with a more stable, less corrupt political system. With better economic opportunities and more equality for the citizens of Haiti, the level of devastation can be better contained in future.
Simply to rebuild Haiti in its present state would not serve the best interests of the people living there. The poster aims to call attention to a long-term relief and construction effort, as opposed to short-term solutions.

Branded Brain
2010
My Contribution to the 10 Images for Ithaca Contest.
Labels are all around us. In the media. In the public domain. Even in our homes. Our perception has become saturated with brands. But the question we should be asking ourselves is what is this doing to our brains? Is our brain under attack from the effects of ubiquitous branding? Or do our brains - and, ultimately, our behaviour - have an impact on the brands we perceive?
Balance
2010
Poster for the Invitational Shanghai Expo Exhibition:
Better HOME city, better life.
To me, a better life in my home city means striking a balance between nature and mankind, between mobility and residence, between community and individuality, between civil society and a citizen's eco-responsibility. The central motif is therefore a mobile. Installed as a fixed structure in homes, it turns freely in the air and is the perfect symbol of balance - despite its asymmetrical form. The iconic motifs used are from Erwin Poell's imagery of Heidelberg. Linked together as parts of the mobile, they symbolize the equilibrium between Heidelberg's man-made landmarks and structures and the city's natural surroundings.

"This is my personal contribution to the "Mut zur Wut" exhibition I held from mid-September 2010. 'Zwischen den Zeilen lesen' means to read between the lines - between the lines I also added a clause sentence that not many still do that anymore. In today's world of media saturation, after all, we have all become too eager or too lazy to do anything else but accept everything at face value. The art of reading between lines, of hollowing out political and populist tirades and exposing the hollowness of our politicians has gone lost. Society is increasingly being spoon fed hate rants and sound-bite comments, which have all been decontextualized. It's no coincidence that so many of my posters deal with issues and call on us to take a closer look. I get infuriated by false oversimplifications. Which is why this poster is such an epiphany for me too. I used Germany's tabloid newspaper The Bild as a background, and by chance I used the cover that caused a huge political stir with German politician Thilo Sarrazin's comments about the dumbing down of Germany due to immigrants failing to integrate. I'll leave the explanation at that. The irony or ironies in the poster, after all, are there for all to see. You just have to take a closer look!"
Subkultureller Herbst
2010
Every year, my hometown of Heidelberg celebrates an autumn fête in the alleys and streets of the old town quarter. It's a highly traditional celebration, firmly anchored in Heidelberg's post-war history. That also means it primarily caters for a mainstream taste. But this year, the autumn fête got its own festival of all things subcultural, the Subkultureller Herbst. It challenged common notions of what culture can be. With art, children's theatre, music, cinema, food and debate. But, above all, and as the leaf implies, it was the event at the fête that lasted longer than all the others.
